Crash System Design - Management and Integration of CAE Inputs
Aluminium Extrusions and Post Extrusion Profiling
Pressed Aluminium Design and Aluminium Casting Design
Jointing of Aluminium by Welding - Rivetting and Adhesives
DFM and DFA delivery
GD&T / RPS Location and Measurement Plans

Specific Role Responsibilities and Experience:
Lightweight product development with application focus on Body in White, Closures and Exterior and on overall vehicle
Application of diverse lightweight materials and technologies on vehicle program to fulfil performance weight and cost targets
Documentation and presentation of project work
Perform detailed vehicle benchmark analysis
Deliver lightweight concept work and weight reduction proposal definition on overall vehicle
Deliver the weight attribute for overall vehicle by working together with all development teams
Deliver Documentation and presentation of weight status
Deliver cross functional communication and work in all aspects and escalate challenges early to define robust solution with highest quality
Define lessons learned and design guidelines
Ensure that learnings out of benchmark analysis are embedded in processes, guidelines and innovation
Develop and define future material strategy acc. to vehicle development plan within the engineering team

Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting the organisation providing recommendations for new practices

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

5+ years experience
BEng. min
Or equivalent relevant experience
Engineering council professional registration
Member of professional practice organisation
Proven track record for the design and engineering of aluminium automotive primary structures utilising extrusions sheet and cast/forged materials
Experience of specifying joining technologies including CMT or MIG welding processes
Able to select materials and processes appropriate to engineering requirements such as strength durability & crashworthiness
Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes associated with aluminium including but not limited to heat treatments coatings, assembly and process tolerances.
Casting and forging design experience and understanding of high and low production rate drivers
