Position Title: Design Validation Engineer

Location: Coventry

My automotive client is one of the world's leading mobility technology companies for development, simulation and testing in the automotive industry. A unique opportunity has developed due to company expansion and a role as Design Validation Engineer is now available. This role will play a key part in supporting start of production projects.

  • You will join the team with the primary objective to work closely with customers to work on the Design Validation (DV) of Electric Drive Units and batteries.
  • You will be expected to take ownership for planning and executing test work primarily on developmental rigs, providing clear and concise data analysis and reporting/recommendations to customer teams (focused but not limited to EDU, Electric Motor, Power Electronics).
  • The successful Design Validation Engineer is typically exposed to multiple different projects during their career, including increasing opportunities in the field of electrified powertrains and virtualised development.
  • The role is therefore particularly suited to flexible people who will enjoy the opportunity to gain experience in new areas and who can rapidly self-start, combining a pro-active attitude, excellent analytical problem-solving skills and an outstanding technical engineering background.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the testing campaign from requirements definition to data analysis and reporting for design validation of unit under test
  • Definition and planning of the testing requirements with the Subject Matter Expert
  • Supervision of the testing facility set up, to ensure Rig and Unit Under Test fulfil the requirements
  • On site support at customer or other facilities as appropriate to monitor and ensure good delivery of the testing campaign
  • Data processing and data analysis that will be used to make engineering decisions
  • Daily summary updates on project and testing status to all project stakeholders
  • Technical direction to test facilities & other stakeholders
  • Support internal Client presentations and participate in trainings and knowledge exchange

YOUR PROFILE:

Essential:

  • Minimum of 2:1 Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant engineering area (Mechanical, Automotive, Electronics, etc)
  • Experience in powertrain development, testing and design validation
  • Electric Drive Unit and battery experience/knowledge
  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to summarise and make clear technical recommendations
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with high level instruction
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively, both written and verbal, with the Client and customer team members
  • Flexible and adaptable to move onto other commodities (e.g. battery/charging/inverter)
