Position Title: EDU Build Engineer

Duration: Contract

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
• Continuous improvement of productive output targets. (S, Q, D, C, P, E)
• Provision of technical support to the team in order to meet and exceed output targets. Including provision of Plans, Information, Material, Instruction and Parts.
• Lead timely resolution and implementation of solutions to resource, facility and quality issues, including planning.
• Represent the build engineering team at all BOM Validation sessions and value add meet then route issues accordingly within Powertrain. Drive issues to resolution.
• Timely resolution of all engine/edu related all live build programmes. Coordinate all available resource to minimise impact on to engine/edu programmes.
• Report out relevant KPI slide status on weekly basis. Identify ‘trends’ in issues and report them accordingly
• Continue to support Powertrain engineering requests for ‘Ad-Hoc’ work. Support a means of measuring, and reporting, this unplanned work.
• Interrogate the master build plan when issued. Identify which areas that are impacted by each build and ensure that these areas are fully aware of upcoming workload. Communicate any changes to in-flight programmes to wider teams.
• Recovery plans.
• Ensuring that they maintain high levels of valid technical competency and have provision of personal development plan.
• Maintain department records for audit purposes and to be the main point of contact for all relevant auditing process
• Ensure component build pedigree is adequately tracked via provision of a suitable build book.
• Ensure availability of a suitable Bill of Materials and change management process, support trials of the process via paper build and emphasis build to enable operations and ensure Safety and Quality measures are met.
• Ensure availability of suitable tooling to enable operations to build to process and meet required process capability standards. Where possible, drive for a Make Like Production (MLP) solution.
• Support Prototype development for DV and vehicles via deviation matrix and instrumentation brochure - ensure timely delivery of Parts, Information and Instruction to enable build.
• Work with engineering teams to develop state-of-the art build process, measurement techniques and validation methods to ensure a world class product.
• Ensure build issues are raised, tracked and resolved via the appropriate issue resolution process (CCAR) with suitable escalation to AIMS to enable support and knowledge transfer to manufacturing. Failure rate and scrap rate tracked to ensure stock control and cost management.
• Manage build timing and ensure alignment to programme, supporting DV and Vehicle teams and aligning timing with Build Planning and Operations.
• Ensure suitable provision of reporting for build to external stakeholders.
• Mentoring and Training of those in Early Careers and Training as appropriate.
• Undertake any other work as directed by the Client in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time.

Experience Required:
• A Level 4 qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline 
• Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent in English, Maths and Science 
• Proven experience and understanding of facilities, processes, equipment and leading technologies 
• Clear and confident communicator both orally and in writing 
• Proactive attitude and willingness to learn new systems and processes 
• Ability to accurately and concisely present complex technical ideas or project issues to a diverse audience 
• Ability to challenge existing thinking in a positive way whilst building credibility and trust through experience and personal style 
• Computer literate, including Microsoft Office and Excel competency to produce plans, reports, presentations, graphs, processes and SPL documents 
• Ability to mentor and train others 
• A full UK Driving Licence with less than 6 penalty points, no disqualifications and 2 years accident-free record
