Position Title: Supervisor - Wire Harness Design Team
Duration: Permanent
Location: Basildon, Essex
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Supervision of Wire Harness Design Team
• Disciplinary and functional supervision of the Wire Harness Design team members
• Responsibility for personnel issues, development and appraisal (PDP)
• Co-ordinate the team to ensure each engineer is aware of their project deliverables and motivate them to deliver quality results to tight deadlines
• Co-ordinate the team to ensure each engineer is aware of their project deliverables and motivate them to deliver quality harness designs to tight deadlines and within cost target, as defined by PL and PM.
• Manage and track the team to ensure design freeze and drawing checks are completed in line with project timing
• Ensure design change management processes are adhered to by team
• Oversee the DFM (Design for Manufacture) process and manage team to ensure the engineering deliverables are met
• Support engineers with DPA0/1 process (Virtual package compatibility), interface to DPA and CAD teams to ensure timely resolution of DPA issues
• Support cross functional team to create and present CPS (Customer Campaign Prevention Specialist) proforma documentation for DPA issues where the required clearances cannot be met by design.
• Support engineers with DPA5 process (Vehicle Assembly Process Issues) and ensure customer deliverables are met
• Ensure team are informed of and trained on new customer, internal and industry standard specifications and requirements
• Assist and encourage junior members of the team to aspire to more senior level of engineering competence
• Ensure internal and customer processes are known and adhered to by the team
• Conduct regular team meetings
• Define and use KPI's to track team performance and quality of delivery
• Train existing and new team members in process disciplines
• Train and Coach engineers in EDS 3D & 2D design principles
Functional Responsibilities
• Technical lead for EDS Wire Harness Design for assigned programs
• Point of escalation for team members for technical issues
• Manage the creation, development and maintenance of wire harness designs and drawings
• Oversee the review/check of drawing and design release packages, ensuring the 2D drawings match the 3D CAD
• Measure and report progress of wire harness design against the project plans, define and implement corrective actions when required
• Liaise with releasing team to ensure new harness designs are assigned the correct part numbering and assist with complexity development from the package side.
• Review Ford CDHR (CAD BOM Alignment) report and define actions to resolve issues
• Support DFM, VAVE and cost reduction initiatives. Generate, review and evaluate potential cost reduction ideas
• Create and maintain team support plans for Product Design Reviews (First Piece Sign Off) at harness manufacturing plants and prototype and launch build phases at customer locations, attend reviews and provide support when required
• Support Virtual Build processes at customer where required
• Support key customer meetings representing the CAD / DPA teams, when required, e.g. PMST, Block, tech reviews, E2Ks
• Work with Project Leaders and team members to prepare engineering project status information and present at internal and customer project reviews
• Identify potential process and tool improvements, Plan, implement, check and review proposed improvements to ensure effectiveness
• Support acquisition of new projects and programs, including support of concept design and architecture studies
• Identify and report roadblocks to management with recommended actions
• Capture lessons learnt and integrate into process improvement opportunities.
• Prepare and deliver technical project presentations to customer
• Assist with resource planning for projects and advise on resource issues for UK team
• Assist with cost centre planning
• Participation in internal and external audits, implementation of the necessary corrective measures
Requirements
• University degree in electrical, mechanical or automotive engineering, or equivalent experience
• Extensive knowledge of vehicle wiring harness design and development
• Working knowledge of 3D Design, 2D Design and Circuit Design
• Experience of leading and managing a team
• Must have solid EDS experience
• Extensive general automotive engineering experience
• Experience of interfacing with customers and suppliers
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Self-sufficient and self-motivated
• Ability to work and communicate at all levels
• Ability to travel both in the UK and Overseas, sometimes at short notice
• Full valid driving licence to drive in the UK
• Fluent in English
• Right to work in the UK – Valid Passport
