Position Title: Project CAD Engineer Exterior
Duration: 6 month contract
Location: Surrey
Description Responsible for: component production release; creating CAD to support production design; manage testing, supplier, CAD, contractor, and other development function; deliver to program milestones; support development and completion of all requirements for production; being the owner of a number of components across the vehicle you will own component cost, weight, and attribute delivery along with other functions. Lead collaborative development of Body Engineering content including interface with the advanced engineering, packaging, studio design, and customer experience teams Responsible for component release for Body Engineering components throughout program lifecycle, including: concept design, supplier engagement, BOM management, systems requirements, simulation analysis, prototyping builds, validation testing, and production support. Supporting all supplier selection and development with heavy interface to purchasing and from supplier engagement Supporting the development of best practices for design and release engineering
This is what you’ll need: Knowledge of an automotive design and development process, system requirements, and general engineering best practices Understanding of Exterior trim & ornamentation content systems and the trade-offs among design, package, function, and customer experience involved with these systems. The candidate should have a diverse knowledge base of exterior trim technologies CAD (CATIA V5) design & manufacturing process experience of body structures content including extrusions, castings, stampings, forgings, injection mouldings, press-mouldings, compression mouldings, VIM, RIM, RTM or related vehicle components & technologies. An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a team – specifically this means active brainstorming, working on components that are not part of the sealing system, and sharing models as required to support the changing needs of an evolving vehicle and work environment Ability to coordinate & manage an outsource engineering provider across multiple time zones A strong understanding of the first-principle physics & requirements of Body Engineering systems & components – the loads, forces, and overall function of the system A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for continuous improvement An excellent understanding of GD&T standards Experience of high and niche vehicle (low volume) programs Understanding of FE analysis technique to drive structural design and its optimization is essential. Experience of best drawing and modelling practices or methodologies would be beneficial. PC literate and at ease with MS Office products Ability to conduct & partake in DFMEA sessions
• Experience of high and niche vehicle (low volume) programmes
• Knowledge of CATIA V5 is essential
• Understanding of FE analysis technique to drive structural design and its optimization is essential.
• Experience of CDM or VPM and DMU tools
• PC literate and at ease with MS Office products
• Experience of CATIA V5 CPD or experience on equivalent composites design toolboxes would be beneficial.
• Ability to conduct DFMEA would be beneficial
• Experience of best drawing and modelling practises or methodologies would be beneficial.
